New Shoot, New Gear

It had been a couple of years since Shakti and I last shot together, but she was back in the U.S. visiting and we teamed up again. There’s a hiking trail in my hometown that has a small tunnel near the parking lot, where I’d shot River years ago, and it turned out to be the perfect place to snap off a few shots.

We also ended up scaring a lot of hikers. To help with that, I’d picked up a small pop-up privacy tent a few years back (something like this, but a bit fancier), and it’s been a fantastic investment to allow models to change on-location.

I also finally had to admit that it was time to upgrade my camera, and purchased a Fujifilm X-T5 primarily for it’s flexibility and excellent film simulation options. However, on a limited budget I couldn’t afford to replace all of my gear, so I bought some cheap adapters to assemble this, which I’m calling the Frankencamera:

I can use my old Canon lenses on it, though without any autofocus, and my old Yong Nuo flashes are compatible as well. To top it off, I had to add an old Mamiya strap I got from my friend Johnny. Instead of the kit lens that came with it, I really wanted to be able to use a wide-angle for these; many of these shots are using my old Canon 10-22, and that will probably be the first lens I’ll end up replacing with a Fuji compatible one.

The colors here are not done in-camera this time, instead I played with color tone mapping in post to make things look moodier. You can click the photo below to view all of these:
