I started shooting tethered with Capture One a while back, and it’s dramatically improved my workflow. The ability to see the images I’m shooting, full-size, immediately, has radically changed the way I approach my work. Setting up lighting is a lot easier, too.

I do all of my work on a Mac, and the Apple Remote is underpurposed at best. Or it was, until I discovered the neat little Remote Buddy program. It captures button presses from the remote and turns them into commands for the currently active program. By default, it allows the Play button to take a shot with Capture One – meaning you can do remote triggering on your tethered setup.

It’s actually a lot of fun to work this way, and it physically frees you up even more from your setup. I still take the camera in hand for more active shooting, but for staged setups, you can’t beat it!

Wholesale Club!

We made a quick run out to Tandy Leather in Richmond this weekend to pick up a few odds and ends. I ended up finding some nice shoulder hide that would work for a couple of different projects, but at $10 per square foot, it was a bit on the pricey side. The really helpful staff suggested that I get a wholesale account, since that would knock the price down by about 40%. Score!

I’ve just learned the hard way that C.S. Osborne 00 (3/16″) gauge grommets go with the C.S. Osborne 00 gauge grommet setter, but not the C.S. Osborne 00 gauge punch (it’s 1/16″) – for that you need the C.S. Osborne 6 gauge punch (3/16″).  Frustration, and two more days of waiting.

That being said, The Hide House, Amazon, and Tandy Leather have proved to be invaluable in completing this project.
